Verisign has released their numbers for 2010 and the total domains registered has risen to 205.3 million.
The last quarter of 2010 saw 3.5 million new registrations edging out the previous quarter’s numbers by 1.7%. More than half the new registrations were .com or .net domains. The .de extension was the most popular country specific TLD.
Verisign’s average system load on domain queries was in the order of 61 billion daily. This final quarter figure is up 17 % on the year. The year’s busiest day served 72 billion requests.
For those interested, Verisign is holding a small business contest with a $25,000.00 payout. For more information click here

an email from EzineArticles about their new acceptance policies. I applaud their new rules as it will weed out the crap article spinners that pollute the Internet. A total of 5 new changes have taken effect immediately.
- Increased quality checks – yes it means someone will more than likely review your article submissions, so you won’t get away with shoddy penmanship.
- WordPress plugin and API – no more article submissions using these tools. You’ll need to manually submit them, as it used to be.
- Dead Links – 14 days before dead links are removed. Previously you were allowed 35 days.
- Basic Plus Membership level – you will only get 10 additional chances to attain Platinum Membership status. This in my opinion is the biggest and most effective change they have made. If they feel you have not progressed enough after 10 additional article submissions, it’s bye-bye. We should see the quality of written articles rise.
- New Minimum 400 Word Count – the minimum word count went up to 400. However, they are looking at implementing a new membership level for their top writers that would allow shorter articles.
So, this is one of the first consequences of Google’s new algo. I believe though the new changes at EzineArticles will be positive in the long run, for everyone.
